Benjamin Franklin once said, "Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.” I just love this quote! It so beautifully speaks to the importance of not allowing how we feel during an uncomfortable interaction to dictate how we respond.
When we feel angry, hurt or disappointed:
- We are more vulnerable, thus saying something that cannot be retracted is more likely.
- Tuning in to what we are feeling in the moment and not acting out on it may be challenging, however, it's a real sign of emotional health.
Therapy can be used to work through unresolved issues that may trigger reactions and a place to learn how to communicate and problem solve more effectively. I wish for you satisfying and meaningful interactions with others.
