Some people think that a poem can touch parts of our brain that other writings can't reach. Though written hundreds of years ago, below, the Persian poet, Rumi, shares some wonderful, simple, and powerful insights in his beautiful, thought-provoking little poem:

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don't go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don't go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth between the
door sill where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don't go back to sleep.

So we're reminded:

  • All too often, people walk around this world unconscious or on automatic pilot.
  • Life is so busy that the tendency is to do, as opposed to feeling and / or experiencing.
  • Once an individual chooses the path of self-discovery, whether it is through therapy or some other mechanism, it is much more difficult to return to old patterns.
  • Once we are awake to all that we are, and all that we may become, magic can happen.

One of my favorite poets from the 13th century, Rumi, wrote the following poem above that speaks to this so beautifully.
